The Greenfield Restaurant & Bar is a place I’ve visited many times, though I’ve never reviewed it. I typically stop by for lunch or work-related gatherings, and the food has always been reliably consistent. That consistency is why I suggested it when Graham, Jonathan, and I met up recently for dinner. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to my previous experiences.

On a positive note, a coworker recommended the Juggernaut Cabernet, and I’m glad I took their advice. It was easily the highlight of my evening.

We started with the Preferred Cheese Plate and the calamari. Both were solid choices. The cheese plate came with a helpful description of each cheese, which added a nice touch, and the calamari was tender and well-prepared. No complaints on the starters.

For my main course, I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare. It arrived medium, which was disappointing. To add to that, the accompanying dauphine potatoes were underseasoned and bland. A pinch of salt or some herbs could have gone a long way.

Jonathan had the salmon and seemed satisfied with it. Graham, on the other hand, was less lucky. His dish was served on an awkwardly shaped plate that made it difficult to eat without making a mess on the tablecloth.

I skipped dessert, but Graham and Jonathan shared a piece of cheesecake. According to Graham, it was the best part of his meal.

When I asked for everyone’s overall impression, Graham summed it up perfectly: “It was very okay.”

Final word? A great wine and a decent start couldn’t save a forgettable main course. Here’s hoping this was just an off night, because Greenfield can do better, and I’ve seen it.
