After a rough few months, I wanted to do something for my last fully free weekend until November. Instead of traveling out of the area, I opted to do something much closer to home: a tourist day in Lancaster with Jilly – a girls’ day out. I’m going to post the three restaurants we hit on the day before Easter in three separate posts. This is the first of three posts: Breakfast at Rachel’s Café & Creperie in Lancaster.
Rachel’s opens at 8 am and we arrived just after 9 am. There was a wait already, which should tell you just how popular this restaurant is. But the wait wasn’t terribly long and the weather outside was gorgeous. We’d been told 25 – 30 minutes and I think it was all of maybe 15 – 20 that we waited. We were shown to a table indoors, right at the window. Rachel’s is Parisian-themed and decorated with many charming interpretations of the Eiffel Tower and reminders to talk to one another and not be on your phones. Jilly and I did use our phones, but that was because we were looking up places and things to do in London and Paris for this fall. We’re all about staying on-theme!
Service is fantastic here. We were greeted quickly. I ordered the Strawberry Thyme drink, which came with sparkling water and was a refreshing start to the meal. Jilly had the Elderflower Lemonade. Rachel’s is donating $ 1 from the sale of every Elderflower Lemonade in April to the YMCA. For our meals, I ordered the Steak & Eggs Crepe, but asked to have the eggs held from the crepe. Shortly after our server left with our order, she returned to ask me if it was okay that the crepes had eggs in the batter. I assured her that it was a taste preference, not an allergy. I was very impressed that she had returned to make sure of it, though! The crepe was flavorful and huge, made with ribeye steak, mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. Way too much for one person to eat on their own. I would have taken the leftovers home, but we weren’t heading back to the house for a few hours. Jilly ordered the Hessy, which comes with eggs, bacon, mozzarella, sausage, and a side of syrup. She said it was also very good. And, like me, she wasn’t able to eat the entire crepe in one sitting. We’ll have to go back again soon and make sure we do take the rest home for later.
Overall, Rachel’s Cafe & Creperie is highly recommended. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, the service is superb, and the food is delicious. It’s well worth the wait! PS: Don't forget to like us on Facebook! Hateful Heifers
